Austrian Choir Heimatecho

The Austrian mixed Choir “Heimatecho” has been singing together since 1980 when a group of members of the Austrian-Canadian Society got together to rehearse some traditional songs for the Christmas party at the newly opened Austrian-Canadian Cultural Centre. Over the years 30 singers joined the choir, which performs at various club functions and also sings at senior homes and hospitals. New singers are always welcome to join the choir. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

Choir Report

Dear Friends and Members:

Happy New Year to all of you. It’s a new beginning and a new year. We are proud cultural and musical ambassadors with dedicated members. We perform regularly to bring beautiful Austrian folk music to centres all around Calgary and out of town.

To start the year, in January, I invited my friends to celebrate my 90th birthday luncheon at the Austrian Club. What a nice gathering of friends, delicious food and drinks. There was singing by the choir, and newly composed songs by Ulrike Fielding, accompanied with guitar by Robert and Violin by Hans Jensen. Everyone was singing and enjoying the moment with great spirit. A special poem was presented by Reinhard Skoracki. It was an enjoyable day. Thank you to everyone involved.

On Thursday January 23, the choir started practice again to emphasize on music for our next performance. Our music director is Jeannie Park. She keeps us happy with new songs and singing with joy. Choir Heimatecho is looking for new singers. Music lifts our spirits. Choir practice is every Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Austrian Canadian Cultural Centre. Please come and share the music with us.

Best wishes to everyone,
Frieda Foidl
